The world’s most powerful passports in 2023 have been revealed. The 2023 Henley Passport Index is now available, with Japan taking the top spot for the fifth year in a row. According to the passport index, India is ranked 85th, which means that Indian passport holders can visit 59 countries without a visa. India has risen two positions in the ranking since last year, when it was ranked 87th. Those with Japanese passports can enter 193 countries without a visa.

The passport index is based on data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and compares 199 different passports to access to 227 travel destinations around the world. It is also updated quarterly throughout the year, with the most recent rankings for the first quarter of 2023.

  3. South Korea
  4. Germany
  5. Spain
  6. Finland
  7. Italy
  8. Luxembourg
  9. Austria
  10. Denmark

Singapore and South Korean passports, which rank second and third, provide visa-free access to 192 countries. Afghanistan is at the bottom of the index, at 109, due to the country’s unrest. Only 27 countries allow Afghan passport holders visa-free entry.

  1. Apparently the Singaporean one is also the easiest to fake. My wife is Singaporean and when we recently traveled to Jordan there was a stopover in Dubai where immigration turned back several Singaporean citizens, even after passing facial recognition, because they weren’t certain it was the person in the photo. Even my wife got cross examined and she has wavy hair and freckles!
