Welcome to the Pancake Capital: Williamsburg’s Brand-New Festival and Trail Celebrate the Flapjack Craze

Is Williamsburg, Virginia, the real Pancake Capital? That’s what locals claim—and they’re going all out to prove it this September.

Williamsburg has earned the nickname “Pancake Capital of the World” thanks to its impressive concentration of pancake houses. To lean into this breakfast-centric identity, the town is launching a two-pronged delight for pancake fans everywhere:

1. A Two-Day Pancake Festival (Sept. 26–27, 2025)

The festival kicks off on the evening of September 26—National Pancake Day—and invites visitors to enjoy dinner-for-breakfast vibes in their pajamas, along with live entertainment. Families can get creative at the “Pancake Lab,” where kids decorate their own pancakes, explore a kid’s zone, and enjoy face painting. The next morning, the festivities shift to the Farmers Market on Duke of Gloucester Street, featuring pancake-themed children’s book readings, a spicy “Sausage Sprint” dachshund race, and the main event—the World Pancake Eating Championship, where pro eaters go head-to-head in a stack-devouring showdown. Tickets start at $20 for adults, $15 for teens, while children and college students get in free. Bonus: those who completed the new Pancake Trail can also enjoy free admission.

2. The Pancake Trail Adventure

Joining forces with the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce, Visit Williamsburg is unveiling the Pancake Trail—a flavorful walking tour of the area’s top pancake joints. Participants can check in at beloved spots like Shorty’s Diner, Astronomical Pancake House, and Southern Pancake & Waffle House via a dedicated app. Check-ins earn you funnel toward fun rewards—like a themed T-shirt and complimentary festival tickets.
