Mediterranean Cruise on Voyager of the Seas: Family Fun & Luxury

This summer, my wife, our 15-year-old son, and I embarked on an unforgettable journey aboard Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas. Our adventure began in the historic city of Athens, a perfect starting point for a voyage through the Mediterranean’s most picturesque destinations. The excitement of discovering new places as a family was palpable, but the cruise ship itself quickly became a central part of the experience.

Life on Board the Voyager of the Seas

The Voyager of the Seas is much more than just a mode of transportation. It’s a floating city full of entertainment, relaxation, and culinary delights. One of the highlights of our cruise was the variety of activities available on board, which kept all of us entertained throughout the trip, even during our days at sea.

For our son, the ship was an endless source of adventure. His favorite activity was undoubtedly the FlowRider® surf simulator, where he spent hours learning how to balance and ride the waves. He also made the most of the Rock-Climbing Wall, challenging himself to reach the top while enjoying stunning views of the ocean. The sports courts offered opportunities for friendly basketball games with other teens, while the mini-golf course was a fun way for all of us to spend time together as a family.

The Adventure Ocean® youth program was a fantastic feature for our son. It gave him the chance to meet other teens from around the world, participate in group activities, and enjoy some independence while my wife and I took advantage of other parts of the ship. Whether it was video games, organized sports, or scavenger hunts, there was never a dull moment for him.

For my wife and me, the Voyager of the Seas was a place of relaxation and indulgence. We started our days with quiet breakfasts at the Windjammer Café, enjoying a panoramic view of the sea. Later, we’d retreat to the adults-only Solarium for some peace and quiet, lounging by the pool and reading while sipping on cocktails. The Vitality℠ Spa offered a range of treatments, and we both enjoyed relaxing massages that melted away any lingering stress from the outside world.

In the evenings, the ship came alive with world-class entertainment. We were particularly impressed by the Broadway-style shows in the ship’s theater, where talented performers took to the stage in dazzling productions. The Ice Skating Show was another surprise, showcasing incredible skill in a setting you wouldn’t expect on a cruise ship.

Dining on the Voyager of the Seas was an experience in itself. We alternated between the Main Dining Room, where gourmet meals were served with impeccable service, and specialty restaurants like Giovanni’s Table for delicious Italian fare. For a more casual atmosphere, we’d sometimes head to Johnny Rockets for burgers and shakes, which was always a hit with our son.

For those seeking more thrills, the ship also featured a Casino Royale, where guests could try their luck at blackjack or the slot machines. While we didn’t spend much time there, it added to the lively atmosphere onboard.

Our Mediterranean Itinerary of our Family Cruise: A Journey Through History and Beauty

Our itinerary included some of the most stunning destinations in the Mediterranean, starting in Athens, where we immersed ourselves in ancient history at the Acropolis.

In Mykonos, we strolled through the picturesque streets lined with whitewashed houses, stopping for local delicacies and soaking in the laid-back island vibe. The next stop, Santorini, provided us with unforgettable views of the caldera and charming villages perched on cliffs. Our boat tour around the island gave us a unique perspective of its volcanic landscape.

In Palermo, Sicily, we were captivated by the blend of cultures and stunning architecture, from the Palermo Cathedral to the bustling markets full of life. Our son loved the opportunity to try authentic Sicilian pizza and gelato.

Valencia, Spain, was a perfect mix of modern and historic. We marveled at the City of Arts and Sciences, then got lost in the narrow streets of the old town. The day concluded with a delicious meal of paella, Valencia’s most famous dish.

Our final stop was Barcelona, where we were in awe of the architectural masterpieces of Antoni Gaudí, especially the awe-inspiring Sagrada Família. We spent our last evening enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of Las Ramblas before heading back to the ship for one last night of luxury.

Reflections on the Cruise

This cruise wasn’t just about seeing new places; it was about the perfect balance of exploration, relaxation, and fun for our entire family. The Voyager of the Seas gave us the opportunity to create unforgettable memories together. Whether we were marveling at a Mediterranean sunset from the ship’s deck or experiencing the thrills of onboard activities, every moment brought us closer as a family.

The combination of exciting destinations, luxurious amenities, and endless onboard entertainment made this a journey we will cherish for a lifetime.
