Direct flights from the United States to Madeira for the first time

The Madeira Promotion Bureau announced that direct air operations from New York, USA to Madeira, Portugal will be updated, with a hiatus from the end of January to March 7, 2022 and a new, extended schedule from March 7 to the end of May 2022. These flights, which began in November 2021, were the first-ever direct flights to Madeira from a U.S. gateway, flying from New York (JFK) to Funchal (FNC). Travelers can still reach this European island paradise via a variety of connecting gateways, such as Lisbon or Porto.

The pause in operations for the direct flights only takes into account potential traveler cancellations due to the spread of the omicron variant, ensuring not only the continued success of the new flight route, but also ample opportunity for travelers to rebook their travel to Madeira in the spring via the expanded schedule. In addition to the extension, the destination is pleased to announce that direct flight operations will resume this fall and winter.
