According to a poll by CheapHotels.org, the South Florida island community of Miami Beach is the most costly place in the world for overnight accommodation this coming New Year’s Eve.
The study looked at hotel rates in 50 major cities around the world. The cheapest available double room for a 3-night stay from December 30 to January 2 was reported for each destination. Only hotels in central locations with at least three stars and generally excellent guest reviews were considered.

Miami Beach came out on top of the rankings, with the least expensive room costing $365 per night. Two other US cities, New Orleans and Nashville, round out the top three, with the most affordable room costing $304 and $284, respectively.
Cancun is the most expensive non-US city, with a nightly rate of $228, ranking fifth overall. Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, is the most expensive European destination ($221), while Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is the most expensive Latin American city ($206).
The survey results also show how the Covid-19 pandemic is still having a significant impact on hotel prices around the world. For example, in Dubai and Sydney, which were among the most expensive New Year’s Eve accommodation destinations in 2019, rates are 40-50 percent lower this year. Prices in Hong Kong have dropped even further, by up to 70%.
