Booking an airline ticket can feel a little like gambling at times. And no matter when you pull out your credit card to reserve a seat, it always seems like someone, somewhere is getting a better deal by booking further in advance or waiting until closer to departure time.
When there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find cheap flights?
Fact: the holidays are one of the busiest times of year for travel. However, just because airline tickets will rise in November and December as people travel for the holidays does not mean you have to overpay. CheapAir.com recently analyzed pricing data to determine when you should book your flights in order to save the most money.

The most common practice is to book a flight on a Tuesday – though some experts recommend looking into airfare on Sundays as well. However, timing is important in addition to the day of the week. Booking your airline ticket too far in advance is a bad idea, but leaving it until the last minute may be even worse.
When buy flight tickets?
So, when is the best time to make a reservation? CheapAir analyzed 917 million fares to determine the best time to fly. According to the study, plane ticket costs remained relatively constant between 320 and 106 days before departure. Around 105 days before flight, those costs started to fall.
All of this is fantastic, but what if you want to save even more cash? Then you’ll have to travel a little further. CheapAir discovered that the best airfare deals happen around 70 days before the travel. They discovered that reserving within this particular period can save tourists up to 48% on their airfares. The best time to book a flight is 54 days prior to departure.
CheapAir.com advises travelers to pay special attention during the “Prime Booking Window,” which runs from four months to three weeks (or 121 to 21 days) before the journey.
If you’re a procrastinator, keep in mind that ticket costs start to skyrocket approximately 20 days before a travel as people hurry to book last-minute flights. The day before the flight is the worst time to buy, followed by two days before. “Purchasing a flight with less than two weeks’ notice is the last tactic we would advocate,” CheapAir.com representatives advised.
Good stuff.
Another thing that would be helpful – though maybe too hard for you to do – would be a page or something which keeps track of the covid requirements from X country to Y country etc. Right now I won’t even consider travelling because of all the restrictions everywhere and paperwork etc. required even without any particular niggles with particular airlines or border entry issues, but it would be nice to know what they are.
You can use the covid map from skyscanner:

THANKS! I generally use skyscanner for booking but never noticed that page. But haven’t been travelling much of late….
