Rwanda, the heart of East Africa, now holds the title of the costliest destination for U.S. travelers, with an average trip costing $18,417. Famous for its once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking expeditions, Rwanda also enchants visitors with chimpanzee encounters in Nyungwe National Park, thrilling safaris to spot the Big Five in Akagera National Park, and a vibrant cultural scene in Kigali, its colorful and ever-evolving capital.
The report from Faye Travel Insurance revealed that Africa dominates the luxury travel rankings for 2025. The Seychelles follow with an average cost of $15,775, while Botswana ranks third at $15,619. Kenya, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and South Africa also feature prominently in the top ten, each offering extraordinary wildlife and landscapes with price tags to match.
Even Antarctica, often thought of as the ultimate exclusive adventure, only secured fifth place, with an average trip costing $14,491.
Despite the allure of these high-end adventures, Europe remains the go-to choice for the majority of American travelers in 2025. Italy, France, and the United Kingdom top the list, with an average European trip costing $5,832 per traveler.
Other popular destinations include Mexico, Germany, and Spain, while the United States itself ranked seventh globally, offering diverse cities, stunning national parks, and sun-kissed beaches for travelers who prefer to stay closer to home.
