On Friday evening, May 2, a 47-year-old American tourist residing in Taiwan suffered serious injuries after attempting to climb a spiked metal fence surrounding Rome’s Colosseum. According to reports, the man was impaled through the lower back by a metal spike, leaving him suspended and in visible agony for over 20 minutes before emergency responders could safely extract him.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as harrowing, with the tourist screaming in pain until he lost consciousness. Paramedics administered sedatives at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery and received more than 80 stitches. The incident occurred in the Piazza del Colosseo area, just outside the ancient amphitheater.
