Where Will the Money Go?
Kyoto plans to allocate these funds strategically:
- Infrastructure Improvements: Around 6 billion yen ($38 million USD) will enhance public facilities, including installing subway platform doors.
- Tourism Management: 2 billion yen ($13 million USD) will address tourist-related issues, such as reducing congestion at Kyoto Station and preventing littering.
Mayor Matsui emphasized the importance of making Kyoto a more sustainable destination, urging visitors to see these efforts as mutually beneficial. “A sustainable Kyoto not only supports our residents but also enhances the experience for tourists,” he stated.
