The Finnish Heritage Agency protects the four historically and architecturally significant buildings that make up the Hotel Maria, which dates back to 1885. Helsinki’s idea of modern luxury is elevated by the design concept, which artfully strikes a balance between dignified, historic building and sophisticated modern furnishings. The Hotel Maria’s interiors, designed by head designer Jana Sasko and one of Finland’s top interior design companies, Puroplan, remarkably combine American flair, extra-large standards, and Finnish culture. With historic elaborate wall and ceiling detailing clothed in contemporary tones of white and neutral, the design celebrates many of the site’s original features while providing a unified and classic backdrop for the overall aesthetic.
Into this crisp envelope, the design layers an array of supple textures, accented with natural woods and hand-forged metals, all crowned with an eclectic, extensive collection of contemporary lighting.
The Hotel Maria offers a variety of accommodation options, including more suites than any other hotel in Helsinki and guest rooms that provide double the space of typical Finnish hotels, with an average size exceeding 460 square feet. When the side buildings on Liisankatu 8A and Maneesikatu are completed in June 2024, The Hotel Maria will have double the number of rooms available.
