That was made possible by Scandinavian Airlines, often known as SAS Airlines, a Swedish airline, which recently debuted a unique mystery flight dubbed “Destination Unknown.”
Imagine departing for a trip with no precise destination in mind.
Only participants in EuroBonus, the airline’s frequent flyer loyalty program, were able to purchase tickets for the flight. Travelers had to exchange 30,000 miles for a seat rather than cash. The journey is scheduled to leave Copenhagen on April 5 and return on April 8.
The only information given to passengers is that the journey will take “a few hours,” and an announcement will be made at some point during the flight to disclose the unknown destination’s location.

“It’s really exciting to think about going on an exciting and mysterious journey with other enthusiasts and making new friends along the way,” stated Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer and Executive Vice President of SAS, in the press release.
A representative for the airline informed Travel + Leisure that more than 1,000 people expressed interest in taking the flight, but that reservations are no longer being accepted. Travelers who signed up will receive tickets for the April trip at random because there are only a certain number of seats available on the aircraft.
Currently, SAS offers flights from the US (Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, and Washington) to 125 locations worldwide, including destinations in Scandinavia and throughout Europe.

As more people look for novel experiences, the idea of “surprise” travel has gained popularity. German airline Lufthansa has a service called “Lufthansa Surprise,” in which passengers choose their home airport and a broad subject for their ideal holiday (such as shopping, the arts, or the outdoors).
The traveler receives their ticket from the airline and the airline tells them where they are going. The 24-hour flexible booking policy does not apply to surprise bookings, and they cannot be modified or canceled.
