Cancun paying for travel: after the confinement caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent collapse of international tourism activity, hoteliers and service providers in the Mexican Caribbean present an ambitious marketing campaign, with the aim of encouraging travelers from Mexico and the world to visit their destinations .
Let’s face it, this is not the first time when you hear news like this. Last month it was a proposal from the government of the island of Sicily, Italy, to pay part of the costs of those traveling there. After that it was Japan’s turn. At first, the entire globe assumed that the Japanese government had set up a billion-dollar fund to pay half of the country’s tourist vacations. Days later, the government needed to clarify that the plan would be valid only for Japanese citizens.
Now it was Cancun’s turn to announce a similar plan. But this time in much more detail.

The Hotel Association of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, a private initiative represented by more than 200 companies, including hotels, theme parks, car rental companies, golf courses, among others, published a note about a campaign launched with the objective of foster tourism in the region.

The campaign entitled # Come2MexicanCaribbean or # VenAlCaribeMexicanoX2 aims to offer additional values, promotions or discounts, around the number 2. The preparation of offers will be the responsibility of each company. Some examples:
- 2 + 2 hotels: A hotel chain can offer 2 free nights for every 2 or more paid nights and / or free stay for 2 children for 2 paid adults,
- Renta de Autos (Car rent) 2 + 2: The 2-day car rental offers 2 more free nights.
Other examples include: 20% discount on golf and spa services, tickets to theme parks at 2 × 1 or with special discounts, among others.
How to access the “Cancun paying for travel” offers?

The “Cancun paying for travel” offers of each company as well as the conditions of each one will be published on this website in English, or on this website in Spanish. The official launch of the campaign is June 15, 2020, with a period to be reserved until August 15, 2020. For now you can access the sites and leave your registered email to receive everything first hand.
In addition, the campaign includes sweepstakes that will be held through social networks. To compete, users must share their travel experiences in the destinations that make up the Mexican Caribbean in a fun and spontaneous way, recording videos on TikTok and sharing inspiring photos on Facebook and Instagram, showing the world the natural and cultural beauty and wealth of the Caribbean .
The tourism industry worldwide is trying to reinvent itself and attract travelers. Unlike the proposals that we publish from Sicily and Japan, the campaign carried out by Cancun is the result of efforts by the private sector and has more concrete details about its implementation. In the coming months we will see if this type of campaign has an effect or not.
