Due to a potential cholera epidemic on board, a cruise liner has been prohibited from docking in Mauritius, and passengers are worried that they may have to spend days in quarantine.

A visitor stated that Norwegian Dawn, with about 1,00 crew members and 2,200 passengers, had been “aimlessly floating” in the open sea since Mauritian authorities blocked it “to avoid any health risks.”

It is reported that at least 15 people—14 passengers and 1 crew member—are experiencing symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting and are being isolated.

According to a mother-of-two who was on board, passengers were informed that there might be cholera on board and that, should it be verified, they could spend up to ten days in quarantine.

Dutch vacationer Esther Verdaas remarked, “You can imagine that the atmosphere among the passengers is not pleasant.”

People are missing flights and losing money on hotels they had reserved in Mauritius. It is a sorrowful, defiant, and angry visit. Naturally, these are issues related to luxury. However, I find it challenging that there are a lot of unknowns. Shall we return home? When? How? How can we obtain tickets?

Within 48 hours, the port authorities stated, the results of its tests would be known.

There are 1,026 crew members and 2,184 passengers on board. Of these, the port authority stated that 2,279 further passengers were anticipated to board the ship, and around 2,000 passengers would have disembarked in Port Louis when their voyage was over.

Due to possible health hazards, passengers scheduled to join the “Norwegian Dawn” and start their cruise from Mauritius today will not be allowed to do so, the statement stated.

According to a representative for Norwegian Cruise Line, those who were planning to exit or board the ship will now do so on February 27.
