China Eastern Airlines is preparing to launch the world’s longest direct commercial flight, connecting Shanghai Pudong (PVG) with Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE). The new route will begin on December 4, 2025, operating twice a week in both directions.
This extraordinary journey will cover more than 12,200 miles (20,000 km). The westbound trip from Buenos Aires to Shanghai will last up to 29 hours, while the eastbound leg will take about 25 hours and 30 minutes, including a scheduled technical stop in Auckland, New Zealand.
The service will be operated with a Boeing 777-300ER, configured for 316 passengers: 258 in economy and 52 in business class. Fares are expected to start around $1,700 for economy and $6,300–6,400 for business class.
Although the flight includes a stop in Auckland, it will remain classified as a direct service because passengers travel under a single flight number on the same aircraft. This new connection provides a faster alternative for travelers between East Asia and South America, eliminating the need to transit through North America or Europe.
China Eastern’s bold expansion highlights the growing demand for ultra-long haul travel, setting a milestone in aviation history with its 29-hour “sky marathon.”
