Covid-related travel restrictions will be recommended by the European Union to the United States.

A diplomatic source told CNN that the European Union is set to suggest on Monday that member states implement Covid-related travel restrictions and block nonessential travel from the United States and five other nations.

Unvaccinated tourists from those countries would be subject to quarantine and testing requirements, according to the source.

Kosovo, Israel, Montenegro, Lebanon, and North Macedonia will also be removed off the safe travel list, according to the diplomat.

A CNN source confirmed other media reports that the decision to renew EU travel restrictions would become final on Monday if no EU country objected.

When the European Council met in June, it suggested that the EU relax restrictions on non-essential travel from 14 nations, among them the U.S.

There has been an increase in instances of Covid-19 in the United States in recent weeks as the extremely contagious Delta strain is spreading among unprotected citizens. Childhood Covid-19 cases are likewise at a record high.
