For tourists visiting Israel, this Dead Sea beach provides a salty sanctuary

This beach in southern Israel is open to the public and is 430 meters below sea level, making it the lowest point on the planet.

Ein Bokek beach on the western shores of the Dead Sea is a favorite of wellness seekers looking for a healing swim due to its mineral-rich, saline waters.

The resort town of Ein Bokek, which has undergone a complete makeover in recent years, is arguably Israel’s best Dead Sea beach. And, at this time of year, the water temperature is a pleasant 28 degrees Celsius.

The large, sandy beach is patrolled by lifeguards and has free amenities such as shade shelters, changing booths, open-air showers, toilets, a paved promenade, and nighttime lighting.

The turquoise waters of the Dead Sea have a salt concentration of 34%, which is ten times that of ocean water. When that salt accumulates, it can form unique salt formations that provide bathers with a place to relax and soak up the rays.

If a relaxing dip in these healing waters isn’t enough, the resorts that line Ein Bokek’s shores offer pampering mineral spas.

Buses run multiple times a day from central Jerusalem to the public beach at Ein Bokek.
