“Best Airport in the World” is awarded to Doha’s Hamad International Airport in 2021.

When it comes to the Skytrax World Airport Awards, Doha’s Hamad International Airport has been crowned the best airport in the world. Previously held by Singapore’s Changi Airport for eight consecutive years, Doha’s Hamad Airport and Tokyo Haneda Airport have seized the title. However, during the pandemic, Hamad airport showed its best side. In 2020, Hamad airport was ranked third in the world.

“As travel hubs worldwide have been impacted by the pandemic, Hamad International Airport was undeterred by the global travel disruptions and continued with its expansion plans while introducing additional airport health and safety standards.”

Doha is now gearing up to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022, the most prestigious sporting event in the world. Several changes are also being made to the airport in preparation for the event. Reports indicate the airline’s annual passenger capacity will be increased to 53 million. In addition to the tropical garden, a 900 ft tall waterfall is also being constructed at the airport, covering an area of 110,000 square feet.

Changi Airport’s staff was named the World’s Best Airport Staff and Asia’s Best Airport Staff in the same year, respectively. During the event, Skytrax also discussed the airport’s achievements. Istanbul’s airport was ranked 102nd last year, but it was ranked 17th this year, making it the world’s most improved airport.
