This Iceland hotel will cover the cost of your stay and travel to photograph the Northern Lights.

It’s time to dust off your camera and practice your best shot, because an Icelandic hotel is looking for its first-ever official “lights catcher”! The Hotel Rangá in Hella is looking for a photographer to capture photos and videos of the Northern Lights. The property will also provide the individual with a month’s worth of lodging.

Not only will the chosen photographer receive free hotel accommodations, but he or she will also receive round-trip airfare to and from Iceland*. He/she must, however, be available for three weeks from mid-September to mid-October.

Hella, on Iceland’s southern coast, is about a 90-minute drive from Reykjavik. It is an excellent location for viewing the Northern Lights. As a country estate, the hotel has a viewing area with its own observatory. The observatory has two high-end telescopes and a retractable roof for a clear view of the sky.

How to apply:

1) Interested photographers must complete an application form. The form asks about your social media reach, photography experience, previous trips to Iceland, and vaccination status.

2) Applicants must explain why they should be the hotel’s photographer.

This is not the first time the property has introduced such novel incentives to entice visitors. In 2020, the hotel offered free stays to women who proposed to their significant others on Leap Day. The property also distributed 700 free Valentine’s Day postcards to those who requested them.
